Spring Greetings, Acupuncture for treating Seasonal Allergies.

MARCH 2014

Greetings!

As Spring rolls in, the flowers bloom, the grass grows and the wind picks up.  Most of us enjoy the freshness in the air and the renewing of the season, but those who suffer from seasonal allergies dread this time of year, as their sinus congestion, running nose, headaches and asthma make them miserable. Often patients report that  their drugstore remedies only offer temporary relief so they resort to steroid inhalers or strong antihistamines.  These medications may bring temporary relief but they don't provide a solution.  That is why I am dedicating this issue to educating the public on ways to bring the body into harmony naturally and with no side effects while improving your allergies AND your overall health.

In a study published in the respected journal Annals of Internal Medicine, participants who received the Acupuncture treatments in conjunction with their antihistamines showed a greater improvement in their allergy symptoms and required less use of antihistamines compared to the other groups.  And beyond this double-blind placebo based study there are years of anecdotal evidence in Eastern countries, as well as in the West, on the effectiveness of Acupuncture in treating seasonal allergies.

We invite you to read the information in our posts this month to get an understanding of the theory of Traditional Chinese Medicine.  It is a unique approach, but because of this, Acupuncture can achieve results that other therapies cannot.  There is a list below outlining the many other conditions Acupuncture can help with.  And contrary to what one might think, the needles are thin and painless and the energy created in an Acupuncture session is very pleasant and relaxing.

highly recommend Acupuncture and want ALL of my patients to heal naturally, which is why I have brought this ancient healing technique to InnerMovement.  Acupuncture offers healing in areas that Chiropractic and Massage do not, however it can serve as integral component of a comprehensive wellness plan.  Acupuncture is a wellness therapy that I entrust my own health, that of my husband and daughter, my staff & many of my patients  with.  I hope you'll consider adding this amazing therapy to your healing regimen.

Until our next adjustment...

CNN Op Ed Piece on "Holistic Ways to Fight Pain, and Win" --- Dr. Heidi weighs in

I'm sure that many of you saw an article on CNN.com entitled, "Holistic ways to fight pain, and win" written by Summer Suleiman, Special to CNN, published on Friday, January 10, 2014. (http://www.cnn.com/2014/01/10/health/secrets-pain-free-life/index.html?hpt=hp_bn13)

I'm so happy to hear that Ms. Suleiman has found a way out of her pain.  And even better, that she has found solutions that will not harm her in any way and was so inspired to share her experience on CNN.com.  As a doctor of Chiropractic and Wholistic Health Professional, I stand by my oath of "First Do No Harm" into every aspect of my practice and as part of core objectives for patient offerings at InnerMovement Chiropractic & Wellness.  Our entire team works to provide patients with health and wellness solutions that have little-to-no side effects and work to harmonize the body, not simply mask symptoms.

In reading Ms. Suleiman's post, I felt the same level of excitement that I do each time my patients declare they are pain-free and feeling better than they thought possible after dealing with chronic pain or illness for decades.  This is truly rewarding through and through!  In my experience, working almost exclusively with pain over the past 10 years, inflammation has proven to be a TOP culprit!  Sometimes the cause is autoimmune or injury related but MOSTLY increased inflammation is due to sedentary lifestyle, stress & the Standard American Diet.  I second Dr. Ghorbani and Ms. Suleiman's recommendations to increase exercise, hours of rest and to decrease stress and eat pro-inflammatory foods.  I also would add that participating in a thorough medically managed detoxification program is extremely helpful in down-regulating pain and inflammation.

To manage and reduce stress, I have found that both NeuroEmotional Technique (NET) and Acupuncture technique to be very helpful.  NET is a brilliant technique that allows a practitioner to locate the most prominent stressor as well as locate the organ weakness caused by that stressor.  Stress really will make a person sick and is documented clearly in the research as a trigger for pain and inflammation. NET is cutting edge, and I have found it to be very effective in helping patients manage stress.

Acupuncture has accumulated a lot of scientific research on its benefits in helping with anxiety and depression.  I also recommend Acupuncture for patients with inflammation caused by stress and patients with fibromyalgia or extreme systemic inflammation.  It is remarkably beneficial.  And if exercise is difficult for patients who suffer from joint pain and muscle weakness, I employ structural balancing techniques like Chiropractic Care and Massage Therapy to restore integrity to the musculoskeletal system and get them moving.

It's encouraging to see that more people are turning towards holistic means to improve their health and thus, their quality of life. I feel blessed to be chosen by my patients to provide solutions for their health concerns and be part of the wellness community.

If you or someone you know is suffering from pain or simply wants to optimize their health, please feel free to contact InnerMovement Chiropractic & Wellness as we'd love to be part of your success story!

Health & Wellness News - New Year Detox - InnerMovement

Health & Wellness News
JANUARY 2014

It's a new year and it's time for our Easy 3 Step Detox Initiative! Once per year, we at InnerMovement promote and also participate in a full 21 day Detox that includes 3 easy detoxifying steps.

Step 1 focuses on eliminating inflammation, pain, stress & lethargy by following the "Eat Clean" diet full of fresh vegetables, fruit, lean protein, healthy oils, nuts & seeds. In Step 1, we avoid all processed foods, gluten and dairy products, alcohol, caffeine, sugar and refined oils. You won't believe how good you will feel once you're your system is free of this "junk". Step 2 begins on day 7 of the "Eat Clean" diet, by adding nourishing meal replacement protein shakes and detoxifying herbal supplement packs. Step 2 is a thorough 14 day detoxification program designed to eliminate toxic buildup in the liver, gallbladder, kidneys and colon. This step jump starts weight loss, decreases allergies and prevents toxic buildup from making you sick! Step 3 begins on day 21 (the completion of the detox) focusing on restoring intestinal balance and maintaining the high energy state of health you have just created with the Easy 3 Step Detox.

Because of the high levels of toxicity in our environment along with the damaging effects of our high sugar, processed, chemically ridden food supply, I highly recommend every patient commit to some form of thorough detoxification at least once per year.  I have not found a detox program that patients love more or with as many clinical benefits as the Easy 3 Step Bio-Detox Program. Take the time to read more, get educated and decide for yourself.  Included with our 3 Step Detox, we offer a gentle Aqua Detox Program which is also available as a solo treatment for patients in need of a gentler form of detoxification.

To aid my patients throughout the detox program, I have made myself available by email or phone to answer any questions you may have. Simply click the "Ask Dr. Heidi" link on our website homepage or call our office.

Until our next adjustment...

Understanding Alzheimer's Disease

Health & Wellness News
NOVEMBER 2013

This month's newsletter topic is focused on understanding Alzheimer's Disease.  Alzheimer's is a relatively new disease of the mind that has been linked to many current trends in the US.  Two of which are cholesterol lowering medications and low fat diet trends.  Both of which decrease the amount of "good fat" available for your brain.  The brain thrives on Omega 3 fatty acids (those found in grass fed protein sources, fish oil, olive oil, avocado, coconut oil etc).  Without adequate amounts of Omega 3 "good fat", your brain starves and glucose metabolism suffers, which according to recent research, leads to Alzheimer's.

Alzheimer's is also strongly linked with a build up of Aluminum in the system from various sources listed below.  A thorough detox program, like the Three-Step Detox we offer at IMC, is an effective way to address buildup of Aluminum, as well as the many other chemicals we are exposed to on a daily basis.

Please take the time to read this month's informative edition to help ensure your health and longevity, and be sure to share it with your loved ones too!

Until our next adjustment...

Coconut Oil: Food For Your Brain

Researchers are actively looking to Coconut Oil and it's positive effects for Alzheimer's patients. The human brain uses glucose for fuel. Most of the time our brains rely on glucose from carbohydrates, but if that isn't available - because we haven't eaten anything for a while or because we're eating almost no carbohydrates - then our brain cells can switch to using the energy from our fat stores. This energy comes in the form of small molecules called ketones.

Through brain scans, Alzheimer's researchers have found that as the disease progresses and gets worse, sections of the brain lose their ability to properly process sugar into energy. When this occurs, the brain begins to use its own cells for energy, causing severe deterioration and dementia.

Coconut oil may help by boosting the brain's energy supply as it is rich in medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs). When the human body metabolizes MCTs, it creates ketone Beta-hydroxybutyrate. This ketone helps to protect the neurons in the brain and provide energy to cells (much like glucose). The ketones found in coconut oil provide a fuel to the brain that is thought to be very beneficial to those suffering from dementia and Alzheimer's.

How to get the benefits of coconut oil into your diet?

* Take 4 teaspoons per day.
Where to buy?  Whole Foods, Trader Joes & most health food stores

Treating Acne with Acupuncture

Treating Acne with Acupuncture

New research shows that Acupuncture is an effective treatment for Acne.  43 Acupuncture acne trials with approximately 3,500 patients was reviewed. In the studies, several types of acne were investigated: vulgaris, papulopustular, inflammatory, adolescent and polymorphic. The researchers discovered that when acupuncture is added to a therapeutic regime, it synergistically enhances the medicinal benefits of the treatment protocol and leads to superior patient outcomes.

If you or someone you know suffers from Acne or Hormonal Skin Issues, encourage them to incorporate Acupuncture into their treatment.  (And it's on special at InnerMovement through October!)

The Health of our Children

Health & Wellness News
SEPTEMBER 2013

Greetings!

This month, our wellness topics speak to the health of our children and should be shared with every parent we know.  The younger generation in our country faces health risks of epidemic proportions, sadly from a system that should be protecting them.  American children are given more prescription medications than any other developed country and the U.S. list of recommended vaccines is larger than any other country.  Unfortunately, the state of health for U.S. Children isn't topping any lists.  According to the CDC, infant mortality rates are higher than most other developed countries (ranking 31st in 2012) and appears to be worsening.  A Washington Post article (dated 01/09/13) shows that our infant mortality rate is twice that of countries like Japan and Sweden.  Despite having the most expensive healthcare system, the United States ranks last overall compared to six other industrialized countries.  Why?

This very informational edition is jam-packed with critical research and explanations on what we are doing wrong with our kids.  It also gives ideas and insights into how to make some positive changes toward the health of our children.  We've also included some helpful tips for clearing up Acne naturally as Acne medications are one of the most widely used prescriptions given to teenagers, despite their known risks to the liver.   If you have a teen suffering from problematic skin, we now offer holistic skin care that combines topical skin treatments with Acupuncture.  The treatment is also highly effective on hormonal skin issues experienced at any age and on special through October.

I hope this edition inspires each of us to rethink any and all medications and for parents to research alternatives for their children.  We urge you to dedicate time to reading this edition in its entirety including our recommended links, watching the documentary films and sharing it with those you love.  Until our next adjustment...

Healing Benefits of Massage

Health & Wellness News
AUGUST 2013

Greetings!

This month we are focusing on the healing benefits of  Massage!  Don't miss the breakthrough new research that we've highlighted stating that massage not only feels great but actually helps the muscles repair while decreasing inflammation, thus pain.

When I was practicing Chiropractic without the addition of massage therapy, my patient outcomes were good.  But when I added massage a few years later, my patient outcomes improved dramatically and my business expanded three-fold.  I cannot say enough about how helpful massage is for balancing conditions of the Musculoskeletal system. Massage along with Chiropractic is the power combo for decreasing any Musculoskeletal pain. And for those of you who prefer a deeper massage or if your muscles are particularly tight, we recommend our Heated Bamboo Massage.  It is great for a deep tissue feel with added heat and relaxation!

If you happen to have caught a summer cold, don't forget about our Cold Stone Sinus Massage.  It is extremely effective in relieving sinus pressure, allergies and headaches!

And this month we are giving you financial incentive to book your next Massage and end the summer relaxed, refreshed and pain free!  We look forward to  seeing you soon for any of our wonderful massages!

We're moving!

We’re putting down new roots!

Coming soon!  You'll find us in the Maryland Office Plaza – located in the heart of Glendale - just one block east of Brand Blvd. between California and Wilson.

Our New Home In June!
230 N. Maryland Ave, #309
Glendale, CA 91206

It’s often said that they only constant in life is change.  How true this is!  After five wonderful years at our present location, the time has come for us to pick up and move, to put down new roots.  And just like a plant that has outgrown its pot, we’ll be replanting our roots at a new, larger home so we can continue to grow and thrive.

Many of you have asked why we’re moving.  The simple answer is that we could not come to agreeable terms in our negotiation with our current space, so we initiated a search to see what was available and found our new home within the Maryland Office Plaza.

Our new space is not only in a better area of Glendale with many convenient parking options, but it is significantly larger, which means we now have room to offer natural beauty solutions including Organic Facials, Acupuncture Face-Lifts & Anti-Aging Treatments that are healthy and harmonious with your wellness lifestyle.  Each of our patient treatment rooms will be larger and we’ll also be able increase our availability for Acupuncture treatments by adding Community Acupuncture and expanding our Traditional Chinese Medicine - Clinical Acupuncture Model.  We’re even incorporating ergonomically designed workspaces for the staff too.

So, even though we were expecting to call our current space home, sometimes things don't work out as planned, but work out better!  This has been a good lesson about embracing change.  Our entire team is both excited and happy about the changes, and looking forward to seeing you at our new home in June.

Please make sure we have your email so we can keep in touch and stay tuned for our official MOVE announcement!

Also, please connect with us on Facebook and our new Instagram account where you can watch our build-out progress!
