Say to yourself, "things are good".
![]() |
| Dr. Heidi |
Many times, I see patients that come to us with a chronic, often very painful condition. We spend visit after visit, moving toward wellness as symptoms improve and ultimately go away. Often times, patients seem unable to accept that they are well. They insist on finding a new problem and seem disappointed when their spine has stabilized. I think it is important for us to realize that even negative patterns can become a habit. I believe that somehow as Marriane Williamson states we are more comfortable with distress and that it in fact DOES take courage to open our hearts, connect with others and rejoice in feeling good.
This Holiday Season, it might be a welcome change to fight our compulsion to stress and suffer, by simply saying to ourselves "things are good" thereby giving ourselves permission to ENJOY all of the goodness in our lives.
On behalf of the entire InnerMovement Wellness Team, we wish you and yours a Happy and Healthy Holiday Season!!!
Until our next adjustment....
Yours in health,

Vaccines: Get Informed.
One of the things we can be most thankful for is our choice to make informed decisions about the health care we choose for ourselves and our families. That is why I am urging all parents to do some research before giving your daughter the Gardasil Vaccine.
The National Vaccine Information Center (NVIC) is demanding an investigation by the Department of Health & Human Services (DHHS) and the U.S. Congress into the fast-tracked licensure and government recommendation that all young girls and women receive the Gardasil vaccine. This vaccine is recommended as protection against HPV virus (venereal warts) which can lead to cervical cancer but according to the NVIC, the risks outweigh the 'yet to be proven' benefits. Routine pap-smears for our young girls and women are still the prevention of choice for this health concern.
Also to note, it has just been released that CA Governor Jerry Brown signed bill 'AB499' allowing 12-year-old children the ability to consent to being injected with Gardasil vaccines without their parents' knowledge! It has been reported that young girls receiving this 'recommended' vaccine have experienced fainting, seizures, stroke, severe headaches, partial loss of vision and worsening symptoms after repeated vaccination. And there have been 29 Gardasil death reports to the VAERS and clinical studies show the efficacy and safety of the vaccine have proven to be poor, to say the least. Somehow our Governor and Policy Makers believe a 12-year-old girl can consent to her Pediatrician giving her an 'experimental' vaccine that could be devastating to her health. This is where we need to be the watchdogs for our families health, by staying informed with every single vaccine decision as it is clearly not our governments or MD/pharmaceutical companies highest concern.
Please take the time become informed. Don't trust any vaccine recommendations without asking some questions and doing your own research. We all have a right to say "NO" to any vaccine if we feel it to be unnecessary or unsafe.
As a Doctor who has researched this topic extensively, and as a Parent, I am here to help guide you with all of your health care including making vaccine decisions.
Until our next adjustment....

Dr. Heidi & The InnerMovement Wellness Team

Stay informed on how to make vaccines safer for your kids.
The Greater Good Documentary Film Screening
The Greater Good looks behind the fear, hype and politics that have polarized the vaccine debate in America today. The film re-frames the emotionally charged issue and offers, for the first time, the opportunity for a rational and scientific discussion on how to create a safer and more effective vaccine program.
InnerMovement is supporting screenings of this outstanding documentary beginning with their LA premier, October 14th, 2012. Dr. Jeanne Ohm (Dr Heidi's mentor and President of the International Pediatric Chiropractic Association) will be joining the producers for an after film showing Q&A with the audience.

School is back in session, continue to learn and grow.
Greetings!

School is back in session reminding us that it's important that we continue to learn and grow. One of the things we should always be learning about is how to better care for ourselves. If we are open to listening to our bodies, we find that we are provided with clues, signs and signals that help us make the right choices to have a heathier, more vibrant life. How do we learn how to make the right choices? We enlist a teacher, an expert, someone who is willing to share that information.
Our Licensed Massage Therapists are some of the experts on our Wellness Team. They are exceptionally skilled in providing pain relief, stress reduction and relaxation to our patients every day. Through the therapeutic process, they not only help us feel better, but help us learn HOW to feel better by helping us connect to our bodies.
Make sure you schedule routine self-care as it's never too late to learn something new about yourself. Think of it like this: Self-care will help us become self-aware!

Nutrition News: Kid's Edition
Tips for Picky Eaters
If you're worried about your children's nutrition or struggle with a picky eater, you're not alone.
Here are some tips to help avoid bad eating habits and encourage a lifetime of good nutrition & healthy habits!
- Don't buy anything you don't want them to eat. If it's not in the house, it makes it easier to avoid.
- Enlist your child's help in the produce section while shopping. It's a great time to talk about the nutritional value of fruits and vegetables.
- Be creative by incorporating healthy foods into their favorite foods.
- Don't offer dessert as a reward and even better, redefine fruit or yogurt as dessert.
- If your child rejects the meal you've prepared, don't prepare anything else as this can encourage picky eating and power struggles over food.
- No TV during mealtimes. Not only are you removing distractions, you're removing the possibility of ads for sugary snacks and fast foods.
- And most importantly... set a good example by eating a variety of healthy foods yourself.

Backpacks for Kids
Do the math by weight
Most kids today use backpacks to carry their books and notebooks to school, however it's important to reduce the amount of stress these can cause to the back to avoid painful back and neck injuries.
Medical professionals advise that individuals carry no more than 10-15% of their body weight on their backs.
Medical professionals advise that individuals carry no more than 10-15% of their body weight on their backs.
This means a child weighing:
- 50 lbs. should carry no more than 7.5 lbs.
- 80 lbs. should carry no more than 12 lbs.
- 100 lbs. should carry no more than 15 lbs.
- 130 lbs. should carry no more than 19.5 lbs.
- 150 lbs. should carry no more than 22.5 lbs.
There are also many wheeled backpack options available that alleviate the weight being carried on your child's back.

School is back in session
Greetings!

This month we are offering spinal checkups and scoliosis screenings for all children related to any of our patients. We would love to check your kids, grandchildren, nieces or nephews next time you are in! (see below for more info)
Until our next adjustment....
School is back in session and families are gearing up for busy schedules, homework, after school activities and the hectic pace of our 21st century lifestyles. To ensure that your child has a healthy and successful year, it will be important for them to have their back aligned and balanced and on track. I wish more parents understood that getting a spinal check-up is just as important as getting a dental checkup. Most parents I talk to admit to having their child's teeth checked regularly but have never had a spinal checkup for their kids. The spine protects and encases the nervous system and misalignment's can lead to dysfunction. So a healthy spine equals a healthy body and we all want that for our kids.
