Breast cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in women, second only to lung cancer. About 1 in 8 (12%) women in the US will develop invasive breast cancer during their lifetime. The American Cancer Society's estimates for breast cancer in the United States for 2013 are:
Death rates have been falling since 1989, believed to be a result of early screening and detection, along with advances in treatments. It is estimated that there are approximately 2.8 million Breast Cancer Survivors living in the U.S.
