Making the most of your Health Insurance
Other policies pay a greater portion of your treatments if you receive the care before the end of the year. For example, if you have already paid your deductible amount for the year, you will not need to pay this deductible amount again this year. If you wait and see us next year, you will need to pay the deductible amount again before your insurance company will resume paying.
Also, if you have pre-paid into your Health Savings account through your employer, you can come in to redeem it, or put a payment on your account with us to be used at a later time.
We are happy to help you figure out what benefits you are entitled to with your insurance or you can call your insurance company or HR director for help.
If you have any questions, feel free to call us at (818) 549-1300.
Thank you,

Free Spinal Screening for a can of soup
During the months of November and December, Chiropractors across the nation will be holding "Pack the Pantry For the Hungry" days in an effort to raise food donations for the hungry while providing free health services and evaluations for their community. From now until the New Year 2010, InnerMovement Wellness Center will host "Pack the Pantry For the Hungry". Patients are invited to bring a food item on Tuesday, Thursday or Friday between 8:30am and 6pm and take advantage of free health screenings from any of our wellness practitioners. "
Canned food donations will be collected at the door through the holidays, and all donations are welcome whether you want to receive free health services or not," said Dr. Heidi. "It's just one small way that chiropractors can have a "hands-on" impact on health and hunger in our community," she said. "Please feel free to invite friends and family to participate as well. We all know at least one person who could benefit from Chiropractic care. This is a great way for them to help others while healing themselves!"
Proceeds from "Pack the Pantry For the Hungry" will benefit Salvation Army, Glendale.

Superfoods for the Holidays
Superfoods for the Holidays
Don't let your health fall by the winter wayside, but make proper nutrition a year round commitment. The 100 Year Lifestyle teaches how to incorporate healthy foods into a balanced diet throughout the year. Here's how to help nourish your body and keep it going strong for 100 healthy holiday seasons.
Back to Basics
Chiropractors and nutritionists now agree that while carbohydrates are still essential, at least half of ingested grains should be whole. You need 2.5 cups of colorful (green is always a safe bet) vegetables and 1.5 cups of fruit each day for a balanced diet. Also all oils are not created equal. Avoid added fat and sugar, but oils found in fish and nuts should be incorporated into your daily meals.
Superfoods to the Rescue
Make foods jam-packed with health benefits a regular part of your diet, which is an easy way to live a quality 100 Year Lifestyle. Try berries, wild salmon, broccoli, tomatoes, soy, oats, strawberries, cantaloupe, garlic, beans, oranges, pumpkin,spinach, bananas, turkey, bean, walnuts, yogurt, and green tea.
Embrace your winter blues-berries, that is! Full of antioxidants like Vitamins C and E, they protect against cancer and aging, among other maladies. They've even earned the nickname "brainberries" because of their memory enhancing properties.
Milled flaxseed is packed with omega-3 fatty acids and is even believed to help prevent cancer. Mix a few tablespoons in with your daily cereal, sprinkle it on yogurt or salad, or grind it up and add your "flaxseed flour" to almost any baking recipe for a nutty flavor.
Become a Grocery Guru
Learn to become a grocery guru and always check the labels while shopping. Look for breads labeled "whole grain" not "whole wheat" and avoid foods with high fructose corn syrup and artificial ingredients. While pre-made meals, sauces, marinades and meals save time, their additives may compromise your diet in the long run. Use seasonings and spices instead of salt and sugar. The surest shopping path to a healthy 100 Year Lifestyle is to slice, season and cook food yourself, using whole, fresh ingredients. You'll feel, look and taste the difference!
Super Family Time
Shop and cook together with your loved ones this holiday season and year round. Enjoy the time you spend together preparing and sharing a healthy meal. Keep the snack trays filled with a mix of holiday treats and nutritious options for in between meal nibbling at family gatherings. Your body will thank you and so will your friends and family!

Get your Kids "Back" on Track this School Year!
Every activity affects the spine. Contact sports, playing an instrument, sitting down and studying, and paying attention in class are all important for a successful school year and they all require a healthy spine and nerve system.
When we watch our kids participating in sports we often cringe at the intense beating that their spines take when they are hit by another person or twisted through their activities. Keeping their spine aligned and balanced is crucial for them to be able for them to enjoy a healthy and successful year and have a healthy spine for a lifetime.
* Children make 775,000 visits to the emergency room each year because of sports-related injuries.
* Every 2 ½ minutes a child is injured on a playground.
* 150,000 kids are treated in the emergency room for football injuries. Many of these injuries are accompanied by trauma and damage to the child's developing spine and nerve system.
*More than 40 Million students carry school backpacks.
Backpacks that are too heavy or worn incorrectly can injure your child's back, neck and shoulders, which can lead to other health problems. Heavy backpacks, playground and sports injuries can cause non-structural or functional scoliosis, an abnormal lateral curvature of the spine that typically appears in early adolescence. This type of scoliosis is not caused by a structural spine abnormality, but develops as a result of misalignment and pressure on the spine and nerve system.
Millions of other kids injure their spine and remain symptom free until later on in life when the damage becomes more permanent.
British medical researchers have found through MRI technology that nearly 10% of children show signs of disc degeneration before reaching puberty. Disc degeneration is a condition in which a damaged spinal disc wears down unevenly causing pressure on the nerves which can limit activity levels, stamina, and quality of life as we age.
A simple examination can determine if your child's spine is on track or off track. Chiropractic care can keep your child's spine and nerve system healthy and insure your best school year ever.

Stay Healthy During the Fires
Keep yourself and your family safe by following these tips:
* Stay inside and keep windows and doors closed.
* Use an air conditioner with a re-circulating option. If your air conditioner only pulls air from the outside, try using indoor fans instead, or opt to spend the day in an air conditioned public place.
* If you must go outside, limit your activity. Participating in sports or strenuous activities will make you breathe harder, increasing the amount of harmful particles you ingest. Wearing a mask can protect you from larger particles but not from smaller, more dangerous ones or toxic gases.
* Drink plenty of water to help your body flush the extra toxins caused by smoke inhalation out of the body.
* Take double doses of Antioxidant Vitamins A, C, E, Zinc. Give children vitamin C as well. These vitamins neutralize toxins and prevent cellular damage.* Take Detoxifying herbs or do a Foot Detox to further assist the body in detoxification.
* Stay informed of the latest wildfire developments. Listen to your local radio and television newscasts or check their websites for updates on the fire's progress. Check for air quality alerts from AQMD.
Children and seniors are at a higher risk for injury or illness due to air pollution, therefore it is even more important to be mindful of safety precautions for these groups.
Call your doctor immediately or go to an urgent care facility if you experience symptoms of serious illness, such as:
* severe coughing
* shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
* wheezing
* chest tightness or pain
* palpitations
* nausea
* unusual fatigue or lightheadedness
We pray that the fires are contained soon. In the meantime we are here to support our patients and our community.
Yours in health,
Dr. Heidi & Staff

What Pro Athletes know that can help young Athletes perform better!
A recent study found that athletes who underwent regular chiropractic care enjoyed a 10% improvement in their overall performance time and results compared to athletes who were not under chiropractic care. In fact, many amateur and professional athletes would not even consider competing without first being adjusted by their chiropractor.
Middle and High School athletes and performers who received chiropractic adjustments gained a 10% improvement in their overall performance time and results, compared to athletes who were not under chiropractic care. Can you imagine the impact of a 10% improvement or decrease in athletic performance? What if your immune system functioned 10% better and you got 10 % more sleep, energy and nerve nutrition? No wonder top athletes get regular chiropractic care with their families. You too can heal quickly and maximize your athletic potential. Make the most of your training. With the right support team in place, pro-athletes, and young athletes alike, can increase their potential to participate in sports at their highest ability, without jeopardizing their future health.
Progressive coaches, athletes, and doctors are realizing that pain-killing drugs are not the answer to sports-related injuries. They merely cover up the symptoms, deceiving the athlete into actions which could make the injury more serious.
Schedule regular chiropractic appointments for gentle and safe adjustments to make sure you are in the best spinal health condition possible. These check ups ensure that the spine and structure are growing and developing in a healthy, balanced way without pressure on the nerves or spinal cord.

Please Welcome our new Associate
We've got your back!
I'm so happy to welcome Dr. Kristy as an extension of my Chiropractic services. With the practice growing everyday because of all your wonderful referrals, we've needed to make room in the adjusting schedule to accommodate the growth. We've also had our "Weekend Warrior" patients requesting Monday availability. So with these two factors combined with the positive feedback I've gotten from almost all of the patients that Dr. Kristy has seen thus far, it was an easy decision to bring Dr. Kristy on as our Monday morning Chiropractor!
She is available from 8:30 am - 12:30 pm on Mondays.
Please take advantage of Dr. Kristy's skills combined with my own. She is an excellent chiropractor with a caring approach. Patients have actually said that it's a "Treat" to see Dr. Kristy. Many have told me how she "Fixed their shoulder" or "Really helped their back pain." I am so grateful to have found someone I can entrust my patients with and I hope you all book a Monday appointment in the near future to meet Dr. Kristy!
All fees, insurance billing and procedures remain unchanged.

Prime Time, Prep Time, Play Time for your "Stay-Cation"
Play Time for your
"Stay-Cation"
By now you have heard the term "Stay-cation" which means families that are staying put this spring and summer rather than traveling to go on vacation. Stay-cationing is a way to find balance during these challenging economic times while also experiencing the fun and escape that comes with being on vacation. Here are some great tips from the Prime Time, Prep Time, Play Time model of The 100 Year Lifestyle that vacationers can use this summer to maximize their work or job search production, stay organized and enhance their environment while also enjoying great playtime to ensure the rest and rejuvenation that we all deserve. |
|
Play Time Play Time is the time where stay-cationers can enjoy all the local flavor including the national and state parks, rivers, lakes and museums that may be in your area. Do your homework to find out when the best times to visit these places might be and plan full day excursions so that you and your family can make the most of these Play Time days. Schedule your Play Time days without letting any work seep in to the day. You may find that one full day of fun activity doing what you love can be just as effective to your well being as a long trip away from home. Refresh your outlook on life by giving yourself permission to enjoy it. You can use some of your Play Time to relax, meditate and think about what you really want to do with your life, then use your Prep Time and Prime Time to research and pursue new goals. |
|
Prep Time |
|
Prime Time Prime Time is about production. This is the time when you are meeting with friends or family, going to doctors visits or doing extensive work on a project you've been putting off. This strategy is different than dabbling. If you dabble a little bit each day with these three aspects of time, you will find that you inch yourself forward and feel incomplete. Of course, nobody's perfect and remember: Change Happens One Choice at a Time, Think Progress Not Perfection, so don't expect 100% on each of these days. Even if you hit 80% you will love it, especially if you are a mom with young kids. Having these full days dedicated to either production, planning or fun will help insure that your "Stay-cations" this summer can become some of the most memorable vacations of your life. |

A bit about Stroke from Dr. Heidi's Perspective Stroke is the third leading cause of death in the United States and the second leading cause of death for San Fernando Valley area residents.Which means that each one of us have friends or family members that have been effected by stroke. While the disabling results of a stroke are most often preventable, it remains the leading cause of adult disability in the country. What can we do to help? The wrong answer is to do nothing but prescribe more drugs. We are not deficient in Lipitor! As a matter of fact people are dropping dead of heart disease and stroke at the same rates as before even if their cholesterol was lowered by medication. So now what? The simple answer is to educate on prevention, but the reality is that unless a person has a clear understanding and a team to hold their hand Lifestyle Modification becomes nearly impossible. We are bombarded with marketing on food that is literally killing us, and we have become an extremely sedentary society. We are unaware of which foods we should be eating that can actually heal us and we are still being told that anything outside of Western Medicine will do no good. |
What is InnerMovement doing to help? Dr. Heidi and the staff at InnerMovement continuously educate patients on the benefits of Exercise, Nutrition, Stress Reduction, and Lifestyle Modification to prevent not only stroke but all forms of chronic illness. This weekend our team joins Downtown Glendale and Glendale Adventist in raising awareness of Stroke Prevention. This weekend Dr. Heidi will be performing spinal screenings for the community, as well as answering any health related questions as they pertain to improving one's emotional, physical or nutritional health. What can you do to help? We are asking you to reach out to one person you believe could benefit from a visit with Dr. Heidi. Bring them to our booth and we will give them a gift, perform a spinal screening and consult with them regarding their particular health challenge. We will also have Miss Arlene giving chair massages at the booth to anyone in need. |
The doctor of the future will give no medicine, but will interest his patients in the care of the human frame, in diet, and in the cause and prevention of disease.
