CHIROPRACTIC & DIGESTIVE HEALTH

Studies show that over 40% of doctor visits are for gastrointestinal problems, with complaints ranging from irritable bowel syndrome, abdominal bloating, and diarrhea to constipation. Often there are no answers to these problems because of a lack of diagnosed anatomical or chemical defects.

As early as 1921, it was discovered that spinal abnormalities could cause stomach, esophagus, duodenum, and intestinal disorders.  And the famous researcher R. Maigne discovered the releasing stress from the nervous system helped digestive pains and pseudo-ulcers.

Clinical experience reveals chiropractic helps relieve abdominal pain, digestive problems, dyspepsia, and epigiastric distress.  A large study involving 385 chiropractors in seven countries who collected information on 5,607 patients found that many reported improvements in digestion with chiropractic care. Chiropractic care has relieved abdominal pain, stomach ulcers, gastritis, colitis, and spastic constipation.

The gut has so many nerve cells contained in the tissue lining of the esophagus, stomach, small intestine and colon, it is often referred to as the second brain or "abdominal brain".  In a healthy state, sensory nerves carry information to the brain however interference with these control signals can often be the result of neuropathy (changes in nerve pathology) caused by misalignment of the vertebrae that house and protect these delicate nerves.

Thus by correcting the underlying cause, vertebral misalignment, with chiropractic adjustments can restore proper communication between the brain and the gut, and may reduce or eliminate many of these gastrointestinal problems.

The spine must be able to move, however, so the spinal column is made up of several individual bones called vertebrae that are separated by flexible discs. Nerves extend from between these vertebrae and transfer messages throughout the body. When the spine is perfectly aligned, these nerves can send messages without interference.
